Competencies

  1. Demonstrate an awareness of 20th and 21st century cultural contributions by women based on societal setting.
  2. Understand systems of privilege and inequality in a variety of societies and their impact on women's lives.
  3. Recognize the intersections of gender, race, and class and other categories of difference.
  4. Analyze specific global issues that affect women's cultural contributions.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of cultural, social, religious, and political difference and how these differences impact women's lives.
  6. Understand the role of a world citizen and the responsibility world citizens share for the global future of women.
  7. Evaluate issues of discrimination from a women's studies perspective.
  8. Consider a society's attitudes, behaviors, concepts, and beliefs regarding women.
  9. Explore personal ethical views on issues surrounding gender and culture.
  10. Describe how a women's studies perspective differs from other academic perspectives, such as sociology, psychology, and anthropology.
